For 35 year the Love Center in Gadsden, that serves families and women, has been just that - a place where love and concern for the homeless has helped to change lives for the better and give struggling families a chance to get a second chance to rebuild shattered and broken lives.
Executive Director Ruth Adcock has been with the Love Center for 20 years and has many stories about families the center has helped,
She worked with Charlsie Tarrence after Tarrence started the Love Center in 1982- by letting homeless stay in her home. The first shelter opened in September of 1982.
Board chairman Nancy Smith said a new board has spent 2016 reorganizing and getting the ministry on firmer footing by partnering with churches, other non-profits and businesses to make sure the Love Center will become stronger and will continue to provide shelter, food and assistance to families that literally have no other place to go other than living on the street.
She said that while 2016 has been busy and successful the board's work has just begun. She said successful outcomes for TLC residents will be a top priority for 2017.
"Our future is bright, Smith said, "we are encouraged. Our shelter doors remain open in the coming days, many homeless have a temporary home with hopes of a future independent life."
